SUMMARY:CT NAELA LUNCH AND LEARN
DESCRIPTION:Please join CT NAELA President Steven Rubin and CT NAELA President-elect Joan Wilson on Friday\, January 21 at noon for a virtual meeting to discuss the Elder Abuse Task Force that was created by the General Assembly in 2021.  Joan is a co-chair of the Task Force and Steve is a member.  The Task Force has been addressing the issue of non-attorneys preparing applications for Medicaid benefits.  Members of CT NAELA and the Elder Law Section of the CBA have presented information to the Task Force about clients who have suffered as a result of the failure of private Medicaid preparers to make applicants aware of their legal rights.  Joan and Steve will be discussing what they have learned about the relationship between the nursing home industry and specific companies that prepare Medicaid applications\, efforts of other states to address the harm caused to seniors and their families as a result of inappropriate guidance by private Medicaid preparers\, and options that the Task Force is considering to address some of the issues.\nBecause of the importance of this topic\, there will be no charge for this event\, and this event will be open to members of CT NAELA and members of the Elder Law Section.  Log-in information will be sent to all CT NAELA members and posted on Lisa Davis' listserv next week.
