As you’re likely well aware, it’s this time of year that we’re ramping up our Connecticut elder law protection and advancement efforts at the state capitol.

While we continue facing COVID-related challenges in nearly every aspect of life, the same holds true with government affairs.

That’s why, to advance our agenda amidst a virtual legislative session, we’ve added grassroots and media relations support by bringing on A Better Campaign.

Our goal in working with A Better Campaign is to help improve the public image of elder law attorneys, especially in the face of the wide-spread incursions from for-profit non-lawyers who have been taking over the Medicaid application business.  We have all heard the stories of the great financial harm caused to elderly couples by these non-lawyers, with no certification or oversight, who hold themselves out as experts in the application process, but who ultimately fail to advise the couple on the Medicaid rules the government intended to protect the spouse in the community from impoverishment.

Working closely with our lobbying team at Sullivan & LeShane, we believe now more than ever, we’re well-positioned to bolster momentum for this and other CT-NAELA priorities.

However, to keep this effort going, we need additional resources.

That’s why we are asking all CT-NAELA members to contribute an additional $250 today to help oppose for profit non-lawyer Medicaid application services. Together, we’ll strengthen elder law in the short-term and for the long run.
